Winters are long, dark and cold in Siberia. It seems like one unfriendly night from October to March. Especcially for people who work in office for the hole day: You leave home at 8 am and it`s dark yet, you come out of the office at 17 pm and it`s already dark.
For people not to be so frustrated by the dull winter landscape they illuminate buildings, briges, trees with blue or colorful lights. Christmas decoration appears on the 1st of November and gets off in Murch.

The center of Tyumen is being rebuilt. Very few wooden houses are repaired the other has been destroyed in order to build modern (disgusting in general) business centers and houses.
On this picture I see 2 old wooden buildings, they seem nice. And one ugly modern LEGO, a part of the Tyumen University.

Most of the beautiful and antient icons are in museums, I suppose. In the Soviet times the chirch was forbidden and condemned, many icons and other religious simbols where anihilated.
This one is from Tyumen Fine Art museum. As all the other icons of a big museum`s collection it was found during an expedition to the countryside. Since the 1950-th they where collected from cellars and attics of village houses.

Autumn (well, and spring) is the best time to see Tyumen. The temperature is the best for walking, trees are red&yellow, and – it`s not very dirty in September.
Anyway, I like the beginning of every season: you just get tired of the previous and happy to get something new for change.

Here is an old house from the village where my husband`s mother came from. Some of Russia villages are doing good, but most of them get closer and closer to the end. People are divided on two teams: you drive alcoholic or drive away, to search for a city job.
Anyway there are plenty of bucolic landscapes and views there. Houses with wooden carving, old trees, ruined households and fields. This house is so Fairy-looking. Baba Yaga (Russian witch #1) could live here.

 At the end of August and at the beginning of September water-melon is the most popular delight . I remember my brother`s birthday (Aug, 25) and on the 1st of September (the day school starts) as days of water-melon. |

In the middle-sized cities you would definately find the district wich looks like a piece of village. Wooden houses or modern cotteges, they have a big yard and household. In old households they may have a cow, chikens, even a sheep. Or ram. This pic was made not far from the center of Tyumen. On a lawn along the big street.
